“South Facing” a compilation album that looks forwards, backwards and sideways but always faces south.....
The next Kennington Recordings release will be a compilation called ‘South Facing’. We have finished making (and bleeding over) the hand crafted CD's and everything is set for the release date of 25th May 2009. The compilation will be available digitally and also as an extremely limited edition, hand crafted CD, with sublime artwork by our good friend Sam Wilson.
The compilation is a jolly mix of old and new, with lots of exclusive tracks including a never heard before Team LG song and the first chance to hear our new friends Treblecat, Deekie and Mariana Ricardo all of whom are busy working on their debut albums for Kennington Recordings.....
‘South Facing’ also has a track from Leander taken from their excellent Pass Fail album, electronic goodness from Pilote and Acacia, Homespun folk from Mit Tremble Kids, a bit of drama from Mr L & The Goth, a ten minute accordion epic from Directorsound and a recording of My Two Toms from when they played the Doghouse and the legend that is Three Strings OMG! We are truly not worthy….....

Sliding Drifting Sinking is a driving anthemic number taken from the highly praised debut album Pass Fail. On hearing the track Music Week commented that it was “packing a sonic wallop that could more than hold its own down the indie disco” who are we to argue?

Berlin based brothers Lars and Daniel
have created an album of outstanding beauty. Sub zero cool and sincerely touching, harsh yet mellow. Songs that defy you not fall in love with them.
Here's a recording as claustrophobic as the granite city streets; as open as infinite country fields. Clean as driven snow, warm as the snugliest duvet.
Pass Fail is released on the 31st March 08

So what do you want from a press release?
A bit of back story? (Berlin based brothers Daniel and Lars who have been undertaking sonic forays since 2005) An unlikely comparison or two? (Its like the Velvet Underground jamming with Four Tet, on acid, in space!) or perhaps a blatant namedrop levered in to get your juices running (They did a stunning remix of Au Revoir Simone dontcha know?). Well any of those might work for an ordinary band, but Leander are far from ordinary so we wont pull cheap tricks like that....
The Hide & Sleep EP released on Kennington Recordings will give you a chance to see what we mean, it is a beautiful concoction of clipped crunchy rhythms wrapped in hazy swathes of mooginess with stirring acoustic led melodies topped with gentle, touching vocals....sounds good huh?
Leander live in the city, but record in the countryside which says a lot about their sound, a perfect mix of harsh and hushed, pastoral and urban. Over the three songs here you get a real taste of their possibility, Lars singing his tender lyrics on "Hide & Sleep" with a distinctive melancholy nonchalance, while the instrumental "East Hills" showcases a darker side with its almost metallic undertow and unfussy arrangement. Final track "Precipice" blends simple acoustic twangs with coarse percussion and aching harmonies arriving in a track which revels in its claustrophobia.
Live dates are being finalized to coincide with the release of this EP, for their gigs they bolster their sound with an extra guitarist and a drummer and are sure to win the heads and hearts of many with their assured, energetic performances the result of their dogged touring of their homeland.
So brace yourself, the album will be out on Kennington Recordings early next year and it is stuffed with songs that will break your heart and make you feel better all at once. You will love this band.
