Amusia
Kennington Recordings KENLP4 Released 26 July 2010 |
As the debut album by Deekie is now within inches of hitting the shops we are feeling a tad generous here at Kennington Recordings. If you click below you will find yourself a free song taken from said long player Amusia.
The track is called Carpet and was made by the duo with extra help and wonkiness by the mysterious Third Man. It’s one of our favourites off the album, we hope you like it too! Expect the album on limited edition heavyweight vinyl and download very soon, more news as it happens.
Deekie are the latest set of lo-fi dreamers to step up to the plate on Kennington Recordings; their debut album Amusia is released on 26 July 2010.
The duo (Mr L & neets) live in London and love the night. They make sweet and sour symphonies to a backdrop of whirring sirens, gnarly neighbours and underground train hum, all of which get swept up into their nocturnal experimentation.
Their sound is a jumble of folky guitars, wonky beats, reversed atmospherics and deeply personal songwriting. If you listen hard enough you might even be able to pick out some of the bat noises they’ve woven in too! Deekie-music may be frayed around the edges, but it’s heartfelt and highly individual.
They met in a drab office where they both worked, and bonded over a love of obscure indie and long lunches. They have since been made redundant (nothing to do with those long lunches...honest). The extra time they now enjoy has been spent finishing their debut album and working out how to use the new equipment they bought with their redundancy cash!
The Deekie pair alternate on vocal duty and are always keen to try out new things, sometimes failing, sometimes triumphant, but always ready to dust themselves off and start again. Their songs are snapshots of these adventures: big ideas, small memories and wide-eyed dreams all preserved for prosperity.
